If I was to input the number 1 in cell A1 and the number 10 in A10, how would I quickly be able to fill in the 8 blank cells so that it shows 2 in A2, 3 in A3, and so on?

highlight the range from first entry to last entry, press F5, select Blanks, type = then hit up arrow and type +1 -- then, whilst holding CTRL hit Enter
(the above will apply an incremental formula to all blanks, incrementing (by 1) from the value in the row above)
in your specific example you could also enter =ROW() but, for scenarios other than the one you outlined (e.g. 2 through 9 in rows 2:9) that is unlikely to work...
