Linking sheets from different computers

Obviously, the two files must be linked, and you have to have access between one computer and the other. If you change the master file, the change won't occur in the second file until the second file is opened. Then it will be updated. I suppose if you have a function (such as SUMPRODUCT) that can draw information from a closed file, you could run into a problem. For example, you change something in the master file that is referenced in File 2. But you also have File 3 open which has a SUMPRODUCT function that reads from File 2. That probably won't work since File 2 wouldn't be updated.

There might be a VBA way of briefly opening a file to refresh it and then close it? Or maybe you can directly edit a closed file with VBA. That is out of my expertise.

Sorry I'm not much help. You may want to rethink how your file system is structured to get rid of this problem.

No need to apologize. I think this is definitely a VBA application. You would need to write (or have someone write for you) a function that will open your files and update them, extract the information you need and then close the files. Again, this is outside my expertise other than I know it's not really possible with the 'out of the box' Excel functions.
