    Conditional Formatting - Severity matrix

    Hi there,
I am creating a Risk Register with likelihood; impact and severity columns using 3x3 severity table Low, Medium, High.

I am looking for some help to calculate the severity based on the entries in likelihood and impact columns.

See attachment which shows the 3 columns and the severity table i am using.

    Cheers

    Welcome to the forum.

How would you calculate it manually?

I would just refer to the severity matrix and enter manually
eg if i rate the likelihood as a 3 (most likely to happen) and the impact as 1 (low); it would be calculated as a medium.

Yes, but the problem is, Excel can't 'see' what you can see. In fact, Excel is blind. Excel needs logic. How is it supposed to know which medium in the matrix the mediums in the two other categories refer to?

I understand these matrices - i have to do risk assessments as a HoD, just so that you know.

So, Excel will need numbers to look up in order to return the correct descriptor from the matrix.
