Hi - quick simple question: why are the contents on one cell displaying in the top display box when I'm in the cell and the contents of another cell not displaying? The spreadsheet has some cells locked for editing, come cells with validation and the whole thing is protected. Does it have to do with this? If possible when in a cell, I'd like to see the contents in the top display box; makes editing easier. Please clarify. Many thanks!
It will be to do with the protection settings, probably. To be sure, attach a sample workbook.

Sorry for delayed response! Have created a sample spreadsheet now attached. Answers welcome.
It's the cell formatting protection settings: they are set to hidden, so when you protect the sheet, those cells show nothing in the formula bar.
