Hi All,
I was doing a calculation by hand, to calculate the angle of a right angle triangle.
Next I was calculating it using excel and noticed even through the same details are being used, I get a different results.
The base of the triangle is 1 metre in length and the height of the triangle is 1 metre.
Using the Sohcahtoa rule,
So in this case, the opposite = 1 metre and adjacentt = 1 metre.
Rearranging the equation, I get Q = tan inverse (opposite/adjacent)
This works out to be 0.785398163 radians or 45 degrees.
In excel, when I inputted the equation =tanh(1/1) I get 0.761594 radians and when I convert it to degrees, I get 43.63613.
I also carried out the calculation where the height of the triangle changed to 2 metres and the calculator works the radians and degrees out to be 0.463647609 and 26.565 respectively.
When I use excel to calculate them I get 0.462117 and 26.47736 respectively.
Can anyone tell me why excel doesn't return an angle of 45 degrees when the base and height of the triangle is 1 metre? I have looked online and used online calculators and they say the angle should be 1 metre.
