Converting Excel to Sheets, and hosting with edit restrictions

    Hi all,

Apologies if wrong section but I guess this is most relevant.

I recently had help from the forum to create a workbook, but I need to host it for others to view it live where only those with permission can edit it.

The easiest way I can find to do this is with Google Sheets.

However, when I upload the excel to my Google Drive, and open it, there is no preview and the option to "Open with Sheets" is not there.

Do I need to somehow convert the excel to sheets, and if so how?

Or is there another way I can host the excel sheet for others to see remotely via a link of some sort?

Edit: Not sure if its worth mentioning that the sheet has macros running with countdown timers etc. This may be the reason why im having issues?

Im happy to share the workbook with anyone to see if theres anything that would cause issue.

    Thanks in advance

That is actually the most important part of your post.

If you have Excel VBA macros, you can't just convert it to Google Sheets. You will have to rewrite the macros from scratch in Google's scripting language.

    Ah nuts.

I'll assume the 'code' is different aswell? Not just a case of copy paste? >.<

You have to recreate them. More information here: https://support.google.com/docs/answ...1168?hl=en#5.2

Please update your forum profile: there is no 360 version. You need MS365, please. The name reflects the number of days in the year rather than degrees in a circle. Thanks.

Yes, that was my point and you can see details in Ali's link. Google uses a completely different language for macros than what Microsoft uses.

Thanks for the links and info. unfortunately this is beyond my level of comprehension. Even the original Excel workbook someone from this forum created it for me.

If anybody is proficient in Excel and Sheets macros id be grateful for some assistance. More than happy to pay for the time spent, although I think its minimal.

    Thanks in advance.

If you want assistance to do it, then continuing here is fine. However, if you want someone else to do the whole thing for you, then buying points and posting in the Commercial Services section would be more appropriate. Whether or not this will be 'minimal' (I doubt it, actually) will depend on the workbook in question, so in order for them to assess this, you need to provide your helpers with that workbook.
