Combining 2 sets of data using Name field

    Hi

I have 2 separate sets of data that I would like to combine (attached). "Dataset" is the main excel that I use and this is where I would like the new data to go into.

on the "Dataset2" sheet I would like all data from I2 (across and down) to be put into the "Dataset" sheet next to the correct name, from column AP.

PLAYER (column A) in "Dataset2" should be the same as NAME (column C) in "Dataset" but this may not be the case for all the leagues I have...They may be similar but an accent on a letter could be different...Is there a way to get closest match on this so a name like Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain would be matched if it was Alex Oxlaide Chamberlain in the other data set? I was also wondering If I could copy playerID (column O in "Dataset") to the PLAYER in "Dataset2" and then use this playerID to link the data instead of name?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    regards

    John

Give the attached a go it uses a macro 'transfer'
There appear a dozen omissions I have not checked if they are just differences in name.
it is just a crude looping procedure takes 7 - 8 seconds.

    Hi

Thanks for this. Like you say it has worked well but if the name is slightly different then no data appears. Do you know anyway that you can get a close match and link it that way? for example it is not picking up Ahmed El Mohamady and Ahmed ElMohamady as the same player..

    Try the latest.
There are names on sheet1 that have nothing on sheet2 remotely alike.
I have added a column at 'A' on sheet1, a name will occur here, compare with column 'D' for any similarity.
If there is then copy/paste data from sheet2 - if totally different then name on sheet1 does not exist on sheet2.
