    Go back in time

Somehow this morning I lost a file. I have no idea how I did it but now when I try to open my file it comes up as the page and data from a different file name.
In other words I had a Portfolio file and a Cash file and now they both show the same Cash page data. I've lost the Portfolio page data and I thought if I went back in time before this happened I could find and save the correct Portfolio page.

    Thank you in advance.

Which version of Excel are you using? You may have the version history option.

If not, when was the last time you backed up your important files? Can you find a recent back-up?

    Re: Go back in time

I have Microsoft Office 365. Tried to find version history option but no love. I did back up to an external hard drive 2-3 months ago which I'll have to use if I can't figure this out.
So I can't go back in time a couple of hours to find and recapture the correct file?

OK - firstly, please update your forum profile with your current version (it says 10 at the moment, which is Windows, not Office).

In Office 365, version history is standard, so with the file open, go to File - Info - Version History. A panel will appear on the right with changes made to your file. If this has been switched on by using OneDrive, which is also standard in Office 365, then you might be lucky.

Failing that, you will need to find the last back-up copy you made.

Frustrated. Cant even figure out how to edit my profile. I can see it with the version 10 but when I click on my profile, it doesn't show an edit feature or version 10.

Regarding your suggestion on how to find it, I was super excited when I found that version history but it was of the cash file not the portfolio file. In my recent files I have the Portfolio name, but when I open it the file is called Cash. So bizarre. I didn't have one drive on so it's not there either. I guess I'll go back to the older one on the hard drive.

Thank you so much for your guidance! I thought we had it there for a minute.

    Re: Go back in time

Go to Settings (right up at the top on the right), then Edit Profile (in the panel on the left) - edit the My Version of MS Office box and scroll down to find the SAVE button.

It sounds to me as if one file has been saved over the top of the other, but this doesn't account for why it has gone AWOL altogether. Have you searched your hard drive for the file? Presumably you have checked the Recycling Bin?

    AliGW,
Turns out I had bigger issues with more than Excel. After hours working with my remote computer tech he finally got it straightened out.
Thanks again for all your help. I appreciate your efforts.
