Extremely slow spreadsheet Excel 2019

I have a spreadsheet here and it's extremely slow. It was created in Microsoft Office Excel 2019 and I can't figure out what's wrong with it. I'm not too well versed in Excel but I have checked for a few things:

It doesn't contain any formula's so setting excel to manual calculation had no effect
There's no conditional formatting as far as I can tell
I checked for empty data cells using the ctrl + end thing and cleared them

Copying the data to another file (or tab) slows the new file or new tab down. Creating a new (empty) tab inside of the slow file makes the program resume normal operational speed again.
The data is rather simple, just names of roses and their prices. No formula's, not even a grand total of any of the columns.

LibreOffice also has problems opening and manipulating the file. I've opened the file on several computers and unless you have a reasonably fast processor, it's unworkable.

The thing is, the file is only 900kb, one tab and has 40 entries. However, it was once part of a much larger spreadsheet and had irrelevant tabs and data removed (the original file which is four times as large works just fine).

Does anyone have a clue what's going on? It's not the first time this happens to us.

Welcome to the forum.

There are lots of shapes on the sheet. I selected one and then CTRL+A to select them all and then DELETE.

Thanks for the welcome! And you fixed it!

I had to look up what exactly a shape constitutes in Excel and I am still not entirely sure as I can't reproduce the effect at home
(I run Linux with LibreOffice) but judging from some of the things I read, you can associate a shape with a cell and they won't be visible at all times.

Am I correct in assuming that these key combos are used to find shapes?

I'll have to ask the person who creates these why he's putting shapes in although I think it might have something to do with the DOS-era software that the data is imported from, quite possibly adding junk data...
Either that or they're just trying to think of things to keep me busy.

Yes, it's most likely to be junk that he's unaware of. We've seen issues like this before on the forum. I am glad I was able to help you and that now, at least, you know what to look for and what to do about it.
