Can I have a value be selected form a list?

Hello, I'm trying to create an excel sheet for my parents to use with their business.
I'm new to making excel use formulas and such, but I have some programming experience.

In the sheet that I'm making, there is one column where we specify a site that is being used. This is going to impact how some of the other cells react; specifically there will be values in a number of other cells that will be automatically populated depending on which site is selected.

Rather that having my folks type in a location for that site - which could get mistyped - I would like to be able to have them select the site specifically, like maybe from a drop-down list. (There are only five sites that it could be, plus a "blank" option for empty rows.)
In most programming languages we can create enumerators and effectively create a list of possible values, and there is no way to use anything that isn't in that list of values. I'd like something like that.
Is there any way I can set that up within an excel sheet?
And what would be the logical syntax to check that value?

data validation allows you to set a list option.

Please upload a small clean sample of your data / workbook (not a picture) to the forum, Make sure you
have removed any private information, remember this is a public forum and so available to anyone.
We would like to see an example of your data and also a manual mock up of the expected results you want to achieve.

Just before posting, scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll
down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Select "Choose File" (top Left corner).
Find your file, click "Open" click "upload" click 'close windows" Top Right. click "Submit Reply"
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

This will make it much easier to solve than just assuming the layout and desired results
