Can't copy and past in protected sheet but can type in cells

Hi,
I am using a protected excel sheet and all the rows are unlocked except for the first. For some reason I can type in the unlocked cells but not paste. I have to copy multiple rows from another document so I have to be able to copy and paste. Does anyone know why I can't paste but I can type in the cells?
Please help!

aren't there numerous options for what to set as protected and what to not set as protected in the protection menu, with regards to what users ""can"" and ""'cant"" do? I seem to remember that. like, checkboxes specifying "yes' and "no" values?

Under the protection tab there is only a "Locked" and "Hidden" check box

what I was talking about before was all of the options in the interface menu when protecting a worksheet. but, based on what you are doing, are you talking about manipulating these menus when changing permissions for different areas of a worksheet?

Oh, I did not take the range approach. I just unlocked all the cells that I want the people I share the document with to be able to edit. My issue is, if someone selects "Clear All" or Pastes something in these cells from another worksheet, the cell automatically locks itself. I don't know why this happens. Would using ranges fix this problem?

I have no idea, but you can give it a try.

I have no idea what you are doing in order to just unlock that first row. I know I did that in the past at some point, but for the life of me I can't remember the menu's and buttons I used to get there. if you can mention that, I can try to replicate the issue over here and see if it is really a legit issue or not. or, someone else could respond if they already know how to fix it.
