    Max Number Over a Range

    Hello,

I have a set of data with Distance and Elevation. I need to identify a max elevation over a distance interval (Over the interval from 14-16', what is the max elevation?). I have to do this process multiple times per day with thousands of lines of data with varying distances and elevations. Is there a way to do this automagically in excel 2013? See attached sheet for some paired down data.

    Thank you for any help.

The attached has two solutions - the first is an array-entered function (entered using Ctrl-Shift-Enter instead of just Enter) and the second is a pivot table using grouping. The pivot table needs to be refreshed (Data / Refresh all ) when you put new data into the sheet - it will take all the data in columns A and B and process it. The array functions use 20,000 rows - if that need to be higher, use Ctrl H to replace 20000 with the higher count.

I just made some changes to the file - to process more points - so you may want to re-download the attachment and re-read my message. You were too quick
