    Explorer in Excel?

    Hey there,
Basically, i want to create an extremely basic version of OneNote but with a retro style. I lack the programming skills to create this (ive been trying), but i was wondering if maybe it could be done in Excel?
Is there a way to create a sort of directory tree of excel sheets within one excel, then be able to open one of those sheets in the same window? See attached example.
Thank you so much! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

I seriously doubt it. where did you get that image from? you CAN however, produce a mirror application that looks exactly like the windows explorer feature (interface to explore dirs and subdirs in windows). you can also create class module objects that can show as tree structures. but your image looks more like a UNIX interface, or even an AS400 database legacy system from IBM 40 years ago.

Your title says Explorer but your post says OneNote. The two are completely different.

This would require VBA. You can create a folder tree and be able to click on a file to open it; that is pretty easy and I have already written a tools to do something like that.

The only difference between what I've done and what your image shows is the colors and font. Looks like you want a Fallout data terminal.

I am thinking that what you want to do is keep plain text in each file, no formulas, and be able to edit it in your window. That is possible, but it is going to require a bunch of coding to load the data, and then changes back into the file it came from. And I don't know what edit features you want--things like insert a row will be a pain since it will also affect your file list.

This is a big coding project to reinvent OneNote using different fonts and IMHO isn't worth the effort unless you are a VBA hobbyist with a lot of time on your hands.

Rule 03: Cross-posting Without Telling Us

Your post does not comply with Rule 3 of our Forum RULES. Do not cross-post your question on multiple forums without telling us about your threads on other forums.

Post a link to any other forums where you have asked the same question.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this.

I have added the crosspost reference for you today. Please comply with this and all our rules in the future

    Re: Explorer in Excel?

I made the provided screenshot in excel. Its pretty much exactly what im looking for.
However a programer on Fiverr is going to cost me at least $125 and im not prepared to spend that much on a notebook program.

I apologize for cross posting and thank you for your graciousness.
This tactic is performed in the event i receive a better answer from another website. I may receive an answer here, but someone else might be able to answer the question with a far easier and faster solution.

you should stay away from Fiverr and Upwork. People work on those sites because they are freelancers. that is totally unsecure work, and even though you can find good programmers on those sites, most of them are probably not the best, otherwise they'd be working in a public corporation somewhere.

If you can get someone to do this for $125 it would be cheap.

This is perfectly understandable and nobody minds that you post somewhere else. Here's the thing: You need to tell us that you did that, so we don't waste time trying to answer the question if you already got the answer somewhere else. Most other sites have the same rule.

Since you are new you should take the time to review our rules. There aren't many, and they are all important.
