Excel Find The Height Of A Right Triangle given hypotenuse and one leg The Pythagorean The

    Good day Guys

I am looking for a function or how to build a macro so that I can use the principles of The Pythagorean Theorem to give me the square not the length also lots of advice given the angle but I don't have the angle.

Horizontal Distance (A) 12287mm I.E. How far I am standing from the building.
Top cill height (B) 14555mm the hypotenuse or the distance from me to the point I want to measure.
Height . (C). This is the part I want to calculate. I am assuming the building is vertical 90°.

I have also set my laser at level to a mark on the building which is 1210mm above the ground. I will then add that to (c).

I hope this all makes sense and someone can direct me.
    All the best
    Mark

I have not take many math courses in my lifetime, but the pathag theorem is the oldest concept on Earth in geometry. do these help? do they give you ideas of where and how to start?

perhaps other folks here are experts in geometry.

Thanks. I can remember that it was the first theorem in the Geomertry book. That's a long time ago. I reckon the first one will work. I'll get back to you. Pythagerus worked this out when onle a few people could write. 600 BC

I'm not 100% certain I'm understanding you, but if the picture matches what you want then the height of the building is:
    sqrt(B*B - A*A) + h

I don't see an Excel component to the question!

    Hi Guys
Yes it's an excel issue. I draw buildings and i need to know the height of a chimney pot. I will have loads and cn enter these into my spread sheet and calculate all the measurements. Excel has the functions. I disn'y know them or how to apply them. Both work but I prefered Fltlib.
    Thanks
    And have a great day
