Display Options for this Worksheet is greyed out

    Hi,

I have get an Excel workbook with some data on several worksheet and a chart on a separate worksheet.

All worksheets with data are fully accessible and editable. But the worksheet with the chart can not be editable (see my screen shot). In Options -> Advanced -> Display Options for this Worksheet [the worksheet that contains the chart] everything is deselected and I am not able to select an option (see my second screen shot).

What can I do to make all selections in "Display Options for this Worksheet" selectable?

    Many thanks

    Could it be password protected?

    Hi TMS,

thank you for your replay. I am not sure whether it is password protected. I can do everything with the workbook except with the worksheet with the chart.

I can insert a new sheet and can copy the chart in the original sheet and can paste it in the new inserted sheet. The new inserted sheet is fully accessible that means I can do everything. Interesting to note is that the fonts and the axes formatting is different in the inserted chart.

In the "protected" worksheet with the chart I can edit the chart (see my screen shot).

    Thanks for your help.

Those options would not be available for a chart sheet, as they are for a worksheet.

If you select the chart area you should see a contextual tab appear containing Design/Format

The review tab will tell you whether the worksheet is protected or not.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

Test is a Chart sheet and NOT a worksheet.

The file confirms that your chart is a Chart sheet and not a Worksheet.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Re: Display Options for this Worksheet is greyed out

    Hi Andy Pope,

I want add some text and data on the chart sheet but the background on the chart sheet is grey and I can not add anything.

As in my first post mentioned the chart sheet with the chart can not be editable. In Options -> Advanced -> Display Options for this Worksheet [Chart] everything is deselected and I am not able to select an option (see my second screen shot above).

How can I in Options -> Advanced -> Display Options for this Worksheet [Chart] select the options?

    Thanks

You can not activate those feature on a chart sheet as they do not exist.

You can add text boxes to the chart sheet.

If you want sheet things then you need to move the chart to a worksheet, so it becomes a chart object on the worksheet

Re: Display Options for this Worksheet is greyed out

    Hi Andy Pope,

many thanks for your help. The difference between a chart sheet and a worksheet is new for me.

Last question, how can I add a chart sheet, using the "Insert" function on the "Home" tab inserts a worksheet.

    Thanks

Re: Display Options for this Worksheet is greyed out

The Insert will place a chart object on the worksheet.

F11 will add a new chart sheet. If the activecell has data Excel will attempt to use it on the chart, otherwise the chart will be empty.

You can move a chart from sheet to worksheet, or vice versa, by right clicking the chart and picking Move Chart...
Or via the Ribbon, Chart Tools > Design > Location > Move chart
