Golf score record will not allow + as it wants to become a formula

Hi,
Sorry if this is a stupid (1st) question.
My friend and I play golf online - result of Covid - and I keep a spreadsheet record. However, when I want to put a + score, it wont display it without it being a formula of some kind; how can I stop this, please?

Just put a ' before the +
