    Pulling Data From Internet

I'm wondering how to get Excel to pull information from the Internet.

For example, we have a spreadsheet at work that somehow pulls current inventory levels from the warehouse, so we know if a part is in stock or not. I've also seen spreadsheets designed to contact gambling sites like Draftkings and Fanduel to download player information and injuries. However, any attempt by me to figure out how this is done is beyond my abilities.

So how can I use Excel to get data from a website? Either specific information, or entire pages? Assuming, of course, you know the specific website you want to pull information from.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Pulling Data From Internet

into their thoughts/hearts/minds when they are desperate to worship rich people and *want want want* products now to feel special. He said that corporate workers know this behavior by something called rage clicking. That's the bad part. but the bottom line is that, software is going away from transaction based recording of user activity and into real-time analysis of consumer behavior in a desperate attempt by corporations to understand the behavior of ignorant consumers across the world. and they of course are making billions of dollars off of people like this. It is very sad, but then again, it'll never change. =(

but, to the point....yes, excel can pull all sorts of data. as I said, the concept of a grid is the basis for so much in this world. windows is even based off of it (think snap to grid menu when right clicking on the desktop). many excel features can pull in data from the internet that is structure in this way. I cannot find any screen recording software that actually captures dialog windows that run on top of excel's primary interface (in other words, windows that are used in excel's features that have I higher z-index value), so in the post following this one, I've posted some images that show you what each step in the following process would look like if you did it yourself like I have just done:

    consider this webpage: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp

there are 2 HTML tables on that page in the source code. see the images below. here are what the images show:

    1
how the first HTML table is displayed on the webpage.

    2
where you can find the source code that makes the first table display on the page (the HTML code in the browser)

    3
how the second HTML table is displayed on the webpage.

    4
where you can find the source code that makes the second table display on the page (the HTML code in the browser)

Just as an alternative, if the data in concern is being imported within a "Table" from a URL it is easy to do the job via built-in menus in Excel or using VBA.

But, using "Google Sheet" it is much more easy.

Using the URL given by Adam in his message #2, after entering the following formula in cell A1 you can get all the table contents on the sheet.
