    Find earliest log on time

    Hi.

I have a list of staff names in col A (A2:A200) sorted in to alpha order and in col C (C2:C200) there are time entries to show when that user logged on to our phone system. This is entered in a time format like 07:45, 08:02, 08:16 etc... However, I currently have this column formatted as general so that this shows as a number - i.e. 8am shows as 0.333333333333333.

It often happens that there are multiple entries for staff in column A because they could log in/out a few times - e.g. Joe Bloggs could be listed as logging in at 07:55, 09:00, 11:30.

So, what I want to do is look at the list of staff names in col A, then produce a result that shows me the earliest time that each member of staff in col A logged on. (Happy for this info to be produced anywhere on the sheet.) I thought I could do this with a MIN statement but I've not had any success and would appreciate any help!

    I'm using Excel 2016.

    TIA.

Post a sample workbook. See the yellow banner at the top of the page.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've attached a sample and included the formula I was trying to use!

    Well, your formula looks ok.

Maybe do it like this array formula:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Then filter on non-blank entries in column D.

Thank you both. These formulas do exactly what I was looking to do. Many thanks for taking the time to help.

No worries - you guys take the time to help out those who need it and, certainly in my opinion, it's much appreciated so the added Rep should help reflect that.

FlameRetired - I forgot about marking the thread as resolved (oops) so I'll do that now.
