    Button formatting

I am puzzled as to why MS downgraded Excel-360 from previous versions. We used to have a good control in designing buttons, Now I can only enter text, color the text and change the font.

How do we color a button? How do we size a button, etc. Where have all the controls gone?

    Thanks

    Re: Button formatting

I use Office 365 on the desktop and there has been no change in these controls for years.

Can you be more specific about what version you are using, and what you are doing? Your profile says 2007 and there is no 360. Maybe a screen shot of the options you see?

    Re: Button formatting

    Sorry, I meant Excel 365.
Before, I was using Excel 2007 and it was fine, perfect. I could design my buttons very easily.
    Now with 365 I can't. Perhaps it's a case of I don't know how to do it.
Can you tell me how to color my button how to size them the same buttons, how to wrap text
how to have them not have the focus when clicked, etc. - all the things we were able to do under 2007.

    Re: Button formatting

You need to insert an ActiveX button for that, not a Form one.

    Re: Button formatting

Well you've got me on that. Never heard of an ActiveX button. I always added a button to my forms or sheet by clicking on the Button command/icon in my Ribbon and drawing it on the sheet. Then right clicking on the inserted button, I could color, size etc. I looked at 'How to insert an activeX button' in the help documentation and it tells me to set the Developer command in my Ribbon and the use that but there is no Developer command available in the list of commands. And can you tell me what's the difference between an activeX button and the button I get by using the Button command that is in my Ribbon?
    Thanks

    Re: Button formatting

Are you actually using 365? Every version of that should have a Developer tab available. Which tab is your Button icon on?

    Re: Button formatting

I guess it's all because I am not an Excel expert. 1) When I open excel, it tells me Excel Microsoft 365 is being opened. 2) I found the Developer Tab and I also found that the Button command there is the same as the Button command found in the ALL COMMANDS (which is what I normally use instead of the TABS). So I do have the correct Command Button (I didn't know it was referred to as ActiveX).

In that case all you need to do is make sure you are in design mode (the blue triangle on the Developer toolbar), select the control and click the Properties button.

    Re: Button formatting

I guess that's the problem. I do not get the menu with Properties in it. When I'm in Design Mode and I left click the control (i.e., my button), the macro gets executed (which I don't think it should since I am in Design Mode). If I right click, all I get is a menu giving me Cut, Copy, Paste, Edit Text, Grouping, Order, Format Control (and Format Control is only for the text).

    Re: Button formatting

I have set up the Developer Tab and I can see the Button Command/Icon. When I create a button from here, I get the same results - Left click =execution, right click= a menu giving me Cut, Copy, Paste, Edit Text, Grouping, Order, Format Control (and Format Control is only for the text).same menu on right click No "Properties"
So back to square one, if it really is a case of activex, how do I get an activex button?

    Re: Button formatting

On the developer tab, there are two separate groups of controls, marked Form and Activex. (unless you're on a Mac). The Properties button is also on the ribbon, next to the Design mode button.

    Re: Button formatting

Yes I see the Properties but it's not for the button. It doesn't give me button properties.

    Re: Button formatting

If you have the button selected it will give you the button properties. If it doesn’t, it’s not an activex button.

I have my button selected. So if it's not an activex, how do I get that?

    Re: Button formatting

Insert one using the button icon in the Activex group on the Developer tab.
