I am a university student currently working on a thesis to do with NBA stats and salaries. As the data I needed for different things for each player has come from different sources, I essentially have 3 different entries for each year side by side. i.e. in the 2018-19 spreadsheet there is (replacing names with arbitrary numbers):
Player \\ Stat \\ Player \\ Salary
1 \\ ... \\ 1 \\ ...
2 \\ ... \\ 3 \\ ...
3 \\ ... \\ 4 \\ ...
4 \\ ... \\ 6 \\ ...
5 \\ ... \\ 7 \\ ...
Unfortunately due to imperfect data, there are some players missing in the salary data and they dont line up, for example row 2 could have player 2's name and stats next to player 3's name and stats, instead of just being 1 player. Is there any way I can align the data such that excel recognizes the names of the player match and hence moves their stat and salary data to be on the same row? At the moment the only way I would know how to do it is by hand and to do this for every player over 40 years would be around 20,000 unique entries and I simply dont have the time to do this. Any help would be unbelievably appreciated.
