    Double Interpolation Calculator

    Hello folks!

Newbie here, so I apologize for any rule infractions.

I'll first reference a previous solved thread that had a similar query:
    ww.excelforum.com/excel-general/1118050-interpolation-table-and-calculator.html

Basically, I have 25 "tank" spreadsheets each with tank volume information. I want to be able to enter a "sounding" value (first interpolation) and a "trim" value (second interpolation) to get the "tank volume"

    Inputs on calculator sheet:
    1) tank
    2) trim
    3) sounding

    Outputs on calculator sheet:
    1) volume
    2) stability information (only interpolated by sounding)
    3) weight

With regard to the weight, the rho density value should auto-populate when the tank is selected, but should allow for manual adjustment.

Also, if it is even possible, a corresponding volume chart on the chart sheet would be nice (here instead of trim interpolation, maybe just 9 lines with the different trim levels)

I hope that is clear and concise enough and thank you in advance for your advice and help!

    Re: Double Interpolation Calculator

I am sure there is a better way.
But the way you look up multiple tables is by giving them a name

You are naming the table, naming the look up row and look up column on every table.

That way when you do the formula, the name references the exact table you want.

It's a bit slow but it works.

    Re: Double Interpolation Calculator

    Thank you so much!

Is it possible to use bilinear interpolation in the tables such that the look-up function will still work?

    Re: Double Interpolation Calculator

I don't know what that means. Do you have an example of the format you want it to look like?

All cell ranges can be given a name when working with multiple tabs, this makes it easy to look up references based on names and not trying to create a formula for an exact tab/row/column of that tab name. It is all about referencing your lookup values when trying to find data via table lookups.
