automatic update of external links

Hello

I have an excel workbook that have several external links to other workbooks.
My idea is to make the external links update every five minute or so and I don't know how I should make that work.
Does anyone have an idea how to manage this?

So you have a destination file fed from a few source files?

If the source files are open, the destination file should auto update with any changes to the source files (providing calcs are set to auto)

If the source files are closed, they cannot be changed anyway, so the destination file should contain their latest info anyway,

If this is not what's happening on your side, check that calcs are set to auto, otherwise explain what you are doing, what you expect to happen, and what is actually happening please

My workbook is compiling data from other closed workbooks. When opening the compiling workbook excel asks if it should update data or not. When pressing yes it updates the data. I guess it maybe open and closes the documents where the data is, not sure.
So what I'd like to do is to automatically do this with a certain frequency. this to allways have the latest data if someone has opened the source workbooks and done any editing to the data.

HI a94andwi,

I have the below macro, you will need to enter the file location in there. (Assuming all of the workbooks are within the same folder.) I have the VBA linked to a button and it works through 280 spreadsheets

If it asks you to update each workbook when it is open, you may need to add yourself as an author on the workbooks by going into properties (There may be a way to do it in VBA but I am still a novice)

Josephteh, that didn't work for me because I didn't create the spreadsheets.

When I looked into it, it advised me I had to be the author of the spreadsheet for it to work. As soon as I changed it, it worked without the prompt. (Might be because my original workbooks are from an external source.)
