How to keep EXISTING cell formats when creating a table from an EXISTING range

While it's ideal to create a table and then apply formatting, I have some existing Excel spreadsheets that already have all the desired cell formatting (which, of course, is nothing like any of the stock styles available).
I need to turn those cells into tables to get all the functionality of tables but keep the existing formatting for fonts, color, bold, hyperlinks, borders, etc. The other post about this did not answer this question. Can this be done and if so, how? Thanks!

When you convert a range to a table, existing formatting is wiped out. I would make a copy of the original data, convert the original data into a table, then do a Format Painter from the copy of the data to apply the original formatting to the table.
