Counting groups of rows.

Hi All

I need help with this attached sample sheet.

The description of what I need is here and there is an attached spreadsheet.

I need a formula to drag down to give col D and a formula to drag down in col E. Rows 1 to3 are different as I have only shown the first 3 cols of the sheet.Col D is the number of alerts for each horse in the 4.15 race.. Col E is the number of horses that are named from each race. i have shown manually the result I want in c and d in red text.

Thanks very much.
The formulae you gave will work if you do one day only . I had not thought out the problem fully..its possible to have data at 1.45L (time and course)
on the different days and will groups these as 1 race if we ignore column a (the date of the race). We must incorporate column a in your formulae
to get them work over a large number of days,if possible. This is totally beyond me unless you or someone can help.
