I have a simple workbook with a Get Data -> From Web query to fetch exchange rates from XE.com. Whenever I open the workbook and refresh the data the first refresh is very slow, around 2 minutes. Any subsequent refreshes finish within 3 seconds. Any ideas of the cause and how to resolve? I suspect it has something to do with the initial opening of a connection to the web page?

Re: Get data from Web slow on first refresh only
Welcome to the forum.
My response is: possibly. That's it. If you'd like one of us to test your theory, please attach a sample workbook that displays the issue. Instructions in the first yellow banner at the top of the page.
EDIT: I have a very, very good friend in Centurion. French, but living in Irene with her South African husband

I'm stumped. It's almost like establishes a handshake between Excel and the site on first refresh, then it refreshes quickly as long as the handshake is intact (maybe time dependent or until the file is re-opened). Thanks for checking!
