Comparing two similar columns and returning corresponding text

    Hello everyone,

I have two columns that I want to return specific text. The employee names are similar but the names in the E column include an initial for their middle name. I want to compare the two employee columns and return favorite colors to the corresponding columns. Since the two employee columns aren’t the exact same, I would not know how to do that. I have attached a spreadsheet of what I am looking to do. Thanks for the help!

Have you looked into downloading fuzzy lookup? I believe it’s available for your version of excel and it sounds like it would be perfect for what you want.

This formula is close to what I need but I just realized the two employee columns need to be swapped. Can you help me with the formula that shows the same thing with the columns swapped?

Try this, but the second list MUST be sorted in ascending order.
