Getting security Issues with Excel Macros

    Hi All,

I am using a simple macro for a project and I am getting an security notice that my excel is trying to access ssl.microsofttranslator.com. I dont know why this file is trying to access this link and when I go to this link, it takes me to the bing translator website.

I am unable to enable macros in the excel now as my anti-virus keeps shutting the excel down.

Is there a solution to this problem? I dont want to uninstall my anti-virus.

    Thank you.

    Which anti-virus software?

What's the code you are using?

Nowhere near enough detail to be able to diagnose your issue.

Apologies for not providing more details. I thought it could be a generic issue

I am using Norton 360. I am using the following function code:

I got the code from my previous post here on the forum (just for clarity).

The error I am getting is that the excel file is trying to access ssl.microsofttranslator.com which is the AV has tagged as a harmful website. I can add this domain to the safe list but I dont know why the excel file is trying to access this website as I am not trying to translate anything.

If it were, it would be all over the Internet!

I cannot see anything in the code that has anything to do with the issue you are reporting, so I think your helpers will need to see the workbook.

    Administrative Note:

We would very much like to help you with your query, however you need to include code tags around your code.

Please take a moment to add the tags. Posting code between [code]Please [url=https://www.excelforum.com/login.php]Login or Register [/url] to view this content.[/code] tags makes your code much easier to read and copy for testing, and it also maintains VBA formatting.

Please see Forum Rule #2 about code tags and adjust accordingly. Click on Edit to open your post, then highlight your code and click the # icon at the top of your post window. More information about these and other tags can be found here

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new here, I have done it for you today.)

Re: Getting security Issues with Excel Macros

    Thanks.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

I think it likely that you are experiencing a false positive: have you tried white listing the site with Norton?

Re: Getting security Issues with Excel Macros

No I have not tried whitelisting the website with Norton. I tried using the file on another laptop with Windows Defender AV and it did not raise any issues.

I was not use why is the excel file trying to access windows translator link when I was not asking it to do so. If you dont see any major issue here then I will close this thread. Thanks.

Re: Getting security Issues with Excel Macros

You should attach the workbook so that somebody can check why it might be trying to access that site.

DISCLAIMER: Only white list if YOU have checked and satisfied YOURSELF that the site is not nefarious. I have not checked and will not be checking it for you, but if Windows Defender sees no issue, then it probably is a false positive, as I said.
