Welcome to the forum.
Based purely on what we know from your post, select cells B1 and C1, then apply a colour using the Fill tool on the Home ribbon (it looks like a paint can).

Do you want to highlight (change colour) on row 1 for column as selected cell?
Or do you mean how to change background of cells manually?

sorry for not being clear.
So in my Excel (attached picture) I can see this grey headlines (and by headlines I understand naming for rows: 1,2,3,4, and columns A,B,C,D...)
In example shown before they are colored in dark grey (and this yellow selecion is nicly contrasting).
In opposite to this light grey and highlits of headlines (green for column A and darker grey for row 1)of the selected cell, which are not so visible in default excel look(especially in bigger data sets).
Hope this will clarify my intent

Asking question is not an easy task
Ok. I will try to clarify with this pic.
I know how to fill colors in cels, columns, rows etc. I don't know how to change the color of headlines.
Thank you!

You can't change that, as far as I am aware
I took the screenshot from this video on youtube called
"Alternating Row and Column Colors and Other Formatting Options in Excel"
(I cannot paste the link to it).
So how come someone has managed that?
Is it contrast setting in windows then?
You really haven't been clear at all!
I was looking at the column and header labels.
Yes, what you want (alternate shading of the rows) can be done with conditional formatting.
There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.
Do you mean changing colour of these:

That might help.

Sorry. I failed explaining that.
Thanks everyone.
It seems it is not doable. The only option is changing Office Theme to Dark Grey.
Not exactly what I had in mind, but will have to do.
Best!
