I have a shared excel document. When we copy and paste C8 (merged cells) into the same column they unmerge. The only way we can get it to work is to select values and numbers formatting but we lose any text color when we use this option.
When the document is not shared this issue still happens when we are shifting a group of cells up or down.
Ideally we would like to CTRL+C and CTRL+V
Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

You cannot merge cells in a shared file. Therefore if you copy cells that are already merged, when you paste the merge is lost.
The recommendation is never, never, never use merged cells.
In case Jeff wasnt clear...avoid merged cells like the plague, they cause all sorts of problems with formulas and code.
