Question How to change default short date format to m/d/yyyy

Default is now d-mmmm. That means when I type 12/6 Excel prints 6-Dec. I would prefer 12/6/2021 as default.

Is it possible to change the DEFAULT setting? When I change Language/Regional format data settings in Windows, it will not change the short date format default.

The default I would prefer is m/d/yyyy. IS IT POSSIBLE to change DEFAULT from d-mmmm to m/d/yyyy?

    Welcome to the forum.

Excel will work out what you want based on what you enter. If you also enter the year (12/6/21), you will get the full short date format. If you enter just date and month, the default will be the custom d-mmm format. Select the column and set it to short date to override this, then all dates will enter as you want.

The answer to my question "IS IT POSSIBLE to change DEFAULT" is no.

According to Microsoft Community answers "how-to-change-default-short-date-format-to-mdyyyy" that property is hardcoded into Excel.
