newbie needs help sorting values in a spreadsheet

Total newbie and looking for some help in building a formula or suggestions on how to best approach my issue.
We have a spreadsheet that's populated each week with various information contained, each week we want to track the progress of the people below. However we cant just paste the figures as they dont match the corresponding names, as some are added and deleted each week.

    Mike 30
    tony 40
    Dave 50
    John 60

The following week we run the figure again but may look like the below when people are added or removed.

    Mike 30 40
    Tony 40 50
    Dave 50 70
    New 20
    John 60 70
    New 10

Third week we run the figures, so the last colum showing Mike 50, tony 60 etc we cant just past in because the order of the names have changed.

    Mike 30 40 50
    Tony 40 50 60
    Dave 50 70 80
    New 20 30
    Paul 10
    Jonh 60 70 80
    New 10 20

Hope the above makes some sense.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: newbie needs help sorting values in a spreadsheet

    Hi and welcome

On the proviso the names are unique identifiers then you could use a VLOOKUP or an INDEX/MATCH to feed the new figures in regardless of the order the data is in.
You would need to manually add any 'new' names to the list.

Or, if you want the whole thing automated a bit more, you could use VBA to take the pain out of the process. Something like clicking an "Import Data" button, you select the file you wish to import from and Excel does all the rest including adding any new names, sorting the data however you wish and feeding in the new figures in the right places.
Sounds complicated but it's really not and it's certainly how I would approach this as I really don't like repetetive tasks!

Either way, for us to show you how we're going to need some dummy data in files rather than pictures of files. Attach something that shows what you want the whole thing to look like and we can go from there.
