Conditional Formatting with index match between two tabs with Google Sheets

Hi Excel Guru's, I have a bit of a doozy of an issue I am trying to solve. Essentially I have a sheet that has 2 tabs, 1 tab is a general "Fill" tab where I input data and the "Productivity" tab is the one that populates the info in from the "Fill" tab into the form of a calendar and a graph. I removed the graph from the test file as of now as it's not the issue I am trying to resolve.

The challenge I have in front of me is that in the "Productivity" tab the calendar is currently set with a conditional format that if the box below the date is above or below 3200 (this is a default goal) it will turn red or green. What I am trying to do though is have the value in the conditional format (3200) be adjustable based on the value that is in column C of the "Fill" tab (as seen as a merged column C and D). I have tried using a custom formula that includes index match that I would have to replicate 31 times for each day of the calendar but it doesn't work and I get an error that the formula is not valid so I can't save it.

Essentially what I need solved is a way to have a modular goal in conditional format that matches the goal in the "Fill" tab. Is this possible? Please let me know.

You can use a formula & use for green
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.
    and for red
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Hey Fluff13! Thank you for the suggestion. Am I meant to put this into the conditional formatting area with "custom formula" selected or somewhere else? I tried putting this into the custom formula area but it gave an error and wouldn't let me save it.

Did you download the workbook I supplied? It's set up in that.

Unfortunately those links come back as invalid.
If you select B7 on the Productivity Board sheet & then click on Conditional formatting, Manage rules, you should see the two rules that are in place.

It's so strange I don't see it. Is it possible it doesn't carry over when I open it on google sheets? When I try to use it on sheets, the conditional formatting section won't let me save the formula. It might be because the formula uses two separate tabs?

I know very little about Sheets, so cannot help with that. Did you try opening it in Excel?
That said when you want something for Sheets, you should clearly state that & post in the https://www.excelforum.com/for-other...mobile-os-etc/ section of the board.

I would recommend against that, otherwise you may get into trouble with the mods.
I suggest that you report the thread & ask them to move it for you.

Re: Conditional Formatting with index match between two tabs with Google Sheets

By design, Google Sheets does not allow conditional formatting based on values on other sheets. However, there is a workaround by using INDIRECT function.

i would post the formulas here but the forum security is blocking it even when wrapped in code tags, so i have little option other than to share the completed file link.

That link is asking me to sign-in, can you post a link to a shared file?

@Fluff13, it is a shared file that ANYONE with the link can view/copy it.

There is nothing more i can do from my end.

if you change "copy" to "view" then you can view it without making a copy.

Yes but you have to have a goggle account.
However I could get the new link, thanks for that.

For reference you can post you formulae like
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    and
    Formula: copy to clipboard

All you need to do is change the colour of the < to black (or any other colour)

Re: Conditional Formatting with index match between two tabs with Google Sheets

Thank you Fluff13 and JanMorris for the extra support! The formula to add is interesting but could it be set up to be modular based on the date the value is input into the calendar? For example, if you put an output number for the 8th of the month, it references what the goal is for the 8th in the "Fill" tab then decides whether to make it green or red?

Re: Conditional Formatting with index match between two tabs with Google Sheets

please show what you are asking with at least a screenshot, and preferably also with a link to a (editor access enabled until resolved) G-Sheets file (because with conditional formatting an excel file is pretty much useless to compare with G-Sheets as they are completely different in this respect) that has manually input and clear identification of the result you are seeking.
