Referencing images

I would like to know if it is possible to reference images in excel. I have the images in a folder but do not want to insert all the images into the excel worksheet. I want to be able to select a name and pull the image from the external folder as images are inputted into the folder on a daily basis. Any help would be great even a point in the right direction.

Paste this code into a module, then its usage is: OpenNativeApp activecell.value
A button can run the macro shown and it will open the image in it's native app.

thank you ranman256, as i am still learning i am a bit confused on where to add the location of my external file in to this code if you could assist again that would be great thank you sooooooo much.
