    Rows misaligning when sorting

When I sort my spreadsheet the rows don't stay fixed (meaning column one will not sort along with column two etc. and the references are thrown off). Any help or assistance is greatly appreciated.

Do the cells that don't sort properly contain formulas? if so, what kind?

    Thank you for the reply.

No, there are no formulas, only text and numbers. And when sorted for example the paperID 001 will not line up with the correct author and title.

    Thanks again!

How are you doing the sort exactly?

    Re: Rows misaligning when sorting

On the home tab I enabled "sort and filter" and used the drop down tab on each column to sort Smallest to Largest.

Can you post a workbook so we can see what's happening?

    Re: Rows misaligning when sorting

I just spoke with my boss (it's government owned data derived from U.S. and international student papers) and the concern is that some of the information may be controlled. Is it possible to derive the problem without access to the workbook? I apologize for the inability to share, but better safe than sorry with controlled information. Thanks.

Unlikely I think as the behaviour you describe is not expected for static data, so I suspect it's either something about the data, or about the way the workbook is set up.If you anonymise the data, does the problem persist?
