CUBEVALUE: String measure values cause errors

I'm creating a workbook connecting to multiple Power BI datasets, using CUBE formulae to layout a structured report.

There are a couple of measures in one of my datasets which display as expected and allow saving as usual when used in a Pivot Table - But when used in a CUBEVALUE function, although they display correctly on the worksheet, the workbook then cannot be saved, with error messages suggesting file corruption.

I've narrowed it down to two measures which return relatively long text strings, delimited by UNICHAR ( 10 ).

I can't find any resources suggesting a limitation on the CUBEVALUE function either on length of value returned, or on special characters used.


Before I embark on a trial and error mission of changing the measures in my PBI dataset... anyone come across this issue before, and know the fix?

OK, kind of answering my own question.... took a quick stab that the string length was causing the issue, and truncated to max 127, which fixed the problem.

Would be nice to understand the actual limitation value, why it exists, and alternatives / workarounds, if anyone has any ideas?
