Question Grouping items under one heading

Hello. I have a project tracker in an excel document with about 20 projects and a handful of tasks under each project name. I want to be able to group each project heading with the tasks underneath it so that I can hide the tasks and just see the project headings.

My problem is when I group the project with the tasks and hide, it hides everything. Is there a way to minimize the contents under the heading, but still have it grouped, so that if I were to move "project 1" below "project 2" it would move the associated task rows below?

Sorry if I made it hard to understand. I just want to be able to have a basic list of projects and be able to expand each project to show the tasks within each project.

    Go from this:
    Project
    Task
    Task
    Task
    Project
    Task
    Task
    Task

    To this:
    Project
    Project
    Project

    Thanks.

Post a small Excel sheet (not a picture) showing realistic & representative sample data WITHOUT confidential information (10-20 rows, not thousands...) and some manually calculated results. For a new thread (1st post), scroll to Manage Attachments, otherwise scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Pretty basic example, but I'm looking to have the option to hide or expand the task information rows under each project.

    Thanks

Re: Grouping items under one heading

Hello Tactrix and Welcome to Excel Forum.
Perhaps the following is an option:
    1. Restructure the data to remove blanks in columns B:E
    2. Fill in the blank cells in column A
    3. Produce a pivot table from the restructured data
    4. In the pivot table select a cell in the Project Description field > right click the mouse > select Expand/Collapse > Collapse Entire Field
    5. Select the cell containing Project 1 and drag it below the cell containing Project 2
    6. In the Project Description field select a cell > right click the mouse > select Expand/Collapse > Expand Entire Field (already modeled on Pivot Table sheet)
Let us know if you have any questions.
