    Question VLOOKUP with partial match

    Hello, guys!

I'm having an issue with vlookup function

There are two tables, one of them has unique product names, product category, prime cost and market cost
Second table consists of columns, such as product names (typed manually, differs slightly from column product names of 1st table), market cost, cost after discount, seller name and gross profit

There are more than 7000 rows on the 2nd table

I wanted to insert market cost from 1st table onto second via Vlookup formula, some of the values were correctly transferred, but most of them gave wrong values as product names differ and vlookup cant find it

    please, share with your ideas

ps. I want to share tables, but data is written in cyrillic.. I thought there is no sense

    Re: VLOOKUP with partial match

Hi. Forum Rule 1 is very short. It states: "Title must briefly summarize your request."

A GOOD thread title is the sort of thing you would use as a search term on Google*. Your chosen title would produce a squillion useless hits. In future, please take a bit more time to think of a descriptive title that would be "Google-friendly". Many people search the forum answers looking for help and your very general title wouldn't help them at all.

Since you are a new user of this site, on this occasion, I have changed it for you.

However, if you continue to use weak titles, you can expect to have your thread BLOCKED until you change it yourself. If that happens, to edit the thread title, open the original post, click "Edit Post" (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

    *Other search engines are available!!!

    Regards,

    Glenn.

Normally, a sheet is preferred (even in Cyrillic... as the formulae will be in English). But it seems clear that the probloem is one of partial matching. If you're allowed to do so (company rules, etc) the best way is to downlad the fuzzy lookup add-on (free from Microsoft www).

Thank you for your feedback, Glenn. I will try to use appropriate titles next time.
