Name not Visible in Name Box

Normally, MS Excel’s names refer to a worksheet range and have a value. Users can access the names from the worksheet’s ‘NameBox’.

I have downloaded an Excel file from the Enron collection, which does not appear to have names associated with the workbook. The ‘NameBox’ list is empty. However, on opening the Name Manager, several names are listed at both Workbook and Worksheet level.

One name, SAPFuncF4Help, is repeated several times at worksheet level for different worksheets and also once at workbook level. There is no value associated with any of the iterations of this repeated name and the ‘Refers To’ column lists ‘=main.SAP4Help()’.

Can anyone explain the role of this name within the Name Manager?

I don't get your updated title at all - the name you are asking about IS visible in Name Manger - it appears several times!!! I'll let it go this time, but it's still a very poor title.

Is the original workbook a macro-enabled workbook, and if so, is there a macro in it of that name?

    Re: An Invisible Name

I have amended this as requested. However, I must take issue with your quote above.

The original title was chosen with care. In fact the name IS invisible until you open the name manager.

Re: Name not Visible in Name Box

So what did you mean by Name Box? If you are referring to the box to the left of the formula bar, then no, they won't appear there as the ranges are clearly not based on physical ranges in the workbook.

You will need to answer the question in my previous post.

Re: Name not Visible in Name Box

True, but Names do not have to refer to physical Ranges. It could be perfectly proper to set a name MyVAT = 20, which could be used in formula.

However, this case is not suitable for use in a formula. It looks possibly like access to a help file.

Our discussion about how to title this thread has, in effect, answered my original query.
