Highlight two columns based upon first column containing string

Hello. I have two columns and would like to highlight both columns if the first contains the string "*000*". In this case, it would be columsn like 1000 Personel, 2000 Program, etc. with their associated values in Column B. According to the conditional formatting rule, these values would be bold.

Select the cells A1:B19 so that you can do this in one operation, then click on Conditional Formatting | New Rule | Use a formula... ,, then put this formula in the dialogue box which pops up:

    =ISNUMBER(SEARCH("000",$A1))

Click on the Format button then on the Font tab and click on Bold under Font style. You might also want to change the foreground colour for emphasis, so click on the Color drop-down and choose which one. OK your way out, and you're done, with Excel automatically adjusting the cell reference to suit the selected range.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
