CELL REFERENCE error with a data list (dropdown)

"excel found a problem with one or more formula reference in this worksheet: Check that the cell references, range names, defined names, and links to other workbooks in your formulas are all correct."



How does one go about finding WHERE the error is in order to fix it?

I have a dropdown list in a cell. The thing references a data/list of values.

If I clear the data validation / list, the error stops.
If I make it again, it comes back.

Those cells have no dependents or precedents and neither does the cell with the drop down .

I'm stuck....
