I'm asking for a friend who has accidently overwritten an Excel file with another file. He does not have a formal backup of the original. When we click on "Restore Previous Version", there are none to restore.
In desperation is there anything hidden away in the bowels of Excel which could point to a recoverable version?

only idea i can think of is maybe the person sent an email with the original version at some point in time. If so you can grab it from the email and resave.

If it's on a network drive then perhaps speak to your IT department and see if they have a back up?
Or check to see if your PC backs anything up, we have a system called Code42 which does regular back ups of our PC's in the office.
