    Formula for reversing a percentage?

Is there a formula for reversing a percentage?

    In other words, C2 returns 2% by dividing B2 (2) by A2 (100), and i want D2 to return 80%.

    Thanks!

I'm sure there is, but, first, one would need to define the mathematical relationship. I do not intuitively see how 0.02, 2, 100 combine to give 0.8. Help us understand how you intend to perform the calculation, and we should be able to help program that calculation into the spreadsheet.

One example is not sufficient. What should 4% become: 90%? 70%? Or any of an infinite number of possibilities in between?

At a minimum, we would need two examples. But the more the merrier.

OTOH, when I read "reversing a percentage", I thought you meant that 20% (not 2%) should result in 80%.

So, if B2/A2 is the percentage, 1 - B2/A2 is the "reverse".

Is it possible that's what you mean?

Sorry i wasn't clear, and butchered my own example - no wonder it was confusing. So sorry! I just want the opposite value based on the context of 100%

    C2 returns 2% by dividing B2 (2) by A2 (100), D2 needs to return 98%. (no idea why i originally typed 80!)

    If C2 is 10%, D2 returns 90%.
    If C2 is 30%, D2 returns 70%.
If C2 is 51%, D2 returns 49%, and so on.

    Thanks!

    Try this:

    =1-C2

    Format as a percentage.

Well, DrewAT certainly did, and yet somehow your response "did it" better than mine. Go figure!

I'm sorry - to be clear, I really did not steal your reply - I simply didn't see it. I am sorry that the OP failed to get yours to work and I am sorry that he failed to thank you for the solution, however that's not my fault and I shouldn't be having to apologise at all, for him or for myself.

"To be clear", I wasn't asking you to. On the contrary, I was acknowledging your apparent contribution and the failure of mine to be effective.

Your previous explanation (``I hadn't seen your post, sorry.``) was sufficient.

If you wish to remove all of these responses (starting with my "where have I seen that before?"), that would be fine with me. They are a needless distraction. Mea culpa!

No, that's fine - thanks. I was beginning to feel you were annoyed with memfor some reason. Thanks for clarifying.

I feel like i'm the one to apologize to and thank curiouscat408 for not giving credit where credit was due. This is the first and only forum i've ever been on, so it's a little difficult for me to follow the "conversation". I avoid the internet at all costs, but come here because it really helps me out at work. I certainly didn't mean to slight anyone. This is a great community of people vastly smarter than myself who are always so helpful and quick to respond, and i thank you all.

None needed. My comments were misunderstood. All the more reason to delete the distracting responses. This has gotten embarrassing.
