Count dates ending in year 'x' with positive claim count

    Hi,

Essentially I need to count the total number of rows that have a claim count greater than zero, for each year. 2018, 2019 and 2020. So essentially 'count IF year ends in 2018 AND claim count greater than zero', repeating this for 2019 and 2020 etc.

How can I go about doing this?

See screenshot for reference. (Would have attached excel file, but it wouldn't let me upload- think it might be too large).

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Re: Count dates ending in year 'x' with positive claim count

Hi, I'm trying to do so but my laptop faces technical limitations- I cannot have two excel worksheets open side by side and so cannot create a sample efficiently. Also, this is a fairly urgent query- would it be possible in this case to just work off the screenshot? I have been trying continuously to create a mockup of 10-20 rows but I just cannot do this- my laptop cannot handle having a second workbook open.

Okay, I've found a way to do it but had to simplify the worksheet. This is just a mock-up I've done, with some data and removed all the irrelevant columns.

    Hope this helps!

    A Power Query Solution

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Power Query is a free AddIn for Excel 2010 and 2013, and is built-in functionality from Excel 2016 onwards (where it is referred to as "Get & Transform Data").

It is a powerful yet simple way of getting, changing and using data from a broad variety of sources, creating steps which may be easily repeated and refreshed. I strongly recommend learning how to use Power Query - it's among the most powerful functionalities of Excel.
