How to clear copy-down history ?

How does one clear/delete the history/memory that appears to be used when one copies down cell values ?

When I copy down values from one or more cells in a row by selecting the desired cells with my cursor
and then click on the lower-right-side "handle" and pull it down into the corresponding cells of the rows below, unexpected (ghost) values are often pasted, which I might have used in the (dark) past.
These values are usually not relevant and produce erroneous results; especially if one is not aware of this ghost value copying.
How does one delete / clear this copy-down history / memory ?

I appreciate your help with this haunting problem whose solution I so far have not been able to find on the Internet.

what version of MS excel are you using now?

Are you confusing these, as you call them ghost values, with SPILL ?

    Thanks for your reply, dosydos.

    I'm using Excel 2007.
I'm not familiar with "SPILL", but I just read that it's part of Excel 365.
Sorry for using the term "ghost" values, as these undesired values appear to come out of nowhere and are haunting me.

On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click the Clipboard dialog box launcher.
The Clipboard task pane appears on the left side of your spreadsheet and shows all clips in the clipboard.
To clear the entire clipboard, click the Clear All button.

    This may help,
    James

Re: How to clear copy-down history ?

Thanks for your reply on this tricky problem, James !
I checked the clipboard content, which is empty.
After that I copied-down part of a row (that I know has the undesired value production problem),
and it still produces (the same) "ghost" values ...
Hence it looks like these undesired values are not coming from the clipboard.
But where DO they come from, and how to erase that history,
or even better, disable using that history forever ?

Your post made me think about it some more.
When one copies-down values, there appear to be (at least) two mechanisms:
    1. situations where Excel just copies-down the verbatim value of the original cells (which is what I'd like it to do)
    2. situations where Excel detects a pattern, and copies-down the calculated next value in the (perceived) sequence,
e.g. when selecting original cells with "1" and "2" and then it triggers copying down values that are increased by 1 each time.
The problem I posted appears to be related to this next-in-sequence-calculation scenario of mechanism 2.
This brings up the question: can mechanism 2 be triggered when one selects one or more original cells from ONLY one row ?
I'm asking since the problem manifests itself when I select original cells from ONLY one row.
It seems strange that Excel perceives a sequence pattern based on one value.
But it looks like that that is happening.
And the subsequent values of the "sequence" that are produced by Excel during the copy-down
are values that are plausible and pertinent to the content of the specific column of the worksheet in question (!).
Hence the question: why does Excel switch to mechanism 2 when only one original row is selected ?
And how does it "calculate" the subsequent copy-down values; from which memory ?

One more observation to complete this long post:
This problem started manifesting itself suddenly, less than a year ago.
I never had this problem before.
This might indicate that some setting in Excel was (inadvertently) changed.
