Data validation (updated rule with no impact on existing data?)

Say, I have the value 1 in cell B1 and the value 0 in cell B2

Then, I put a data validation on column A, which allows only the contents of column A to be either 1 or 0, using List as follows:

If I now change my mind and change the value in B1 from 1 to Yes, and the value in B2 from 0 to No, then from this point onwards, I understand that I won't be able to enter 1 or 0 in any new cells in column A. But those cells in column A which already have values 1 or 0 before I change the validation rule (by changing the contents of B1 and B2) can still exist as they were.

Does that mean I would need to manually change those those cells in column A which already have values 1 or 0 (before I change the validation rule) to either Yes or No?

No, it just means that if you try to refresh the values in column A which are currently set to 0 or 1, the current (existing) value would be rejected. You would then have to choose Yes or No.

"Find and Replace" will change your 0/1 values to "No/Yes"
