Formula that uses chart values that contain a linear relationship

I have been building a spreadsheet that uses weights and arms to calculate moments.

The purpose is to determine the total weight of an aircraft once it has been loaded and to calculate the resulting location of the center of gravity.

I can do the primary calculations and have been able to calculate the final weight and balance point for the aircraft in it's various loaded conditions but the next and final step I am having difficulty with.

I was hoping I could avoid plotting a chart but maybe that would keep this more simple.

I have a set of limitations that build a chart (loading "Envelope") I am hoping that someone can aid me in making a formula that determines if the calculated C of G falls within the limitations of the chart.

The limitations (plot points) for the envelope (chart) are in the attached spreadsheet.

    Thank you for your help.

I think you are assuming that we know what all this data means.

    Are you asking this:

Here is a table of weights and corresponding upper and lower limits for where the center of gravity can occur relative to fore and aft

Here is a weight and the center of gravity. Does that center of gravity fall within the limits for that weight?

Here is a solution using linear interpolation. Plotting a chart will help visualize it but won't help with the calculation. It calculates a table showing above, below, and interpolated values for the target. This could all be done with one large formula, but I think this gives more visibility to the user as to what's going on instead of just a bottom-line answer. The number is colored green or red depending on whether it is in range of the interpolated values.

Also I recommend you get rid of the merged cells. They are nothing but trouble.

Re: Formula that uses chart values that contain a linear relationship

    Thank you very much!

Yes, this is what I was after:

    Are you asking this:

Here is a table of weights and corresponding upper and lower limits for where the center of gravity can occur relative to fore and aft

Here is a weight and the center of gravity. Does that center of gravity fall within the limits for that weight?

Your sample does exactly what I need.

Point taken on the merged cells.

    Cheers!
