Find/replace how to control bold/non bold in replace

Excel 2010 in Windows 10 laptop.

I have an excel file which contains cells in which the first word is in bold followed by a . (period) and then several words in plain text.

    Example:
    Title. text1 text2 text3 etc

    Only "Title." is in bold.

    I used Find/Replace to
Find text2 and replace with New.

But, the replace makes everything in that cell bold. The replaced word and everything else in the cell!
I want to leave the format of everything else as is and only insert "new" in non-bold format like the "text2" it is replacing,

Is that possible? Something like "ignore format" ?

If I use the replace options to make the replaced word "non bold" the replace replaces everything in that cell to non-bold!
I just want to affect the searched word alone.

Please update your forum profile with this information. Thanks.

I think you will need VBA for what you are trying to do. It certainly can't be done any other way.

    Thanks. That's a bummer.
I can do it manually but that is tedious in a huge file,

    VBA is beyond me.
    I'll find another way.

I went to profile but could not find where to enter my version of Excel.

Re: Find/replace how to control bold/non bold in replace

    Solution

    Found an easy workaround.

Copy/pasted the Excel table into Word. In Word the problem did not exist. I could find/replace any word without it affecting the format.

(In case someone else needs to know).
