Question Opening Excel workbook maximises last-used minimized workbook within Windows

I have noticed that if I have an Excel workbook minimised, then open a different workbook, the new workbook appears but the minimized workbook also pops back up to the foreground.

This quirk has occurred for years, if not longer.

Has anyone found a 'solution' to stop this behavior from occurring?

Currently running Windows 11 and Office 365 but this behavior also occurs on a Windows 10 / Office 2016 system.

What is the 'problem' with the behaviour? What do you want to happen?

I would expect the minimized window to stay minimized, as it is minimized for a reason.

Opening a new workbook should not be bringing an 'old' (minimized) workbook back to the foreground.

Re: Opening Excel workbook maximises last-used minimized workbook within Windows

I think it's because all workbooks are being opened by the same instance of Excel. Can't say I'd ever noticed - it certainly isn't something that bothers me or that seems wrong.

I am not sure if there's a way to stop it happening - sorry. Maybe someone else will.
