Column to the left of the row numbers?

Hi.

I have been working on excel for years but I've never seen this:

I have somehow created some sort of bookmarking function which is displayed to the left of the row number column.

At the head of the column are 5 small buttons and they have lines running down to specific row numbers.

Does anyone know how I can remove this? I didn't want it there in the first place.

Sounds like grouping...

Highlight the worksheet and go to Data|Group and Outline|Ungroup

Keep doing it until all of the grouping is gone.
