    Capturing data without pivot table

I am trying to create a report for my workplace that will capture data for phone calls our office receives. Each phone call received is assigned a category between 1 to 6 depending on the nature of that call. The call is also assigned another code depending on which city district that call was made from.

At the end each month I need to generate a report that will indicate how many of each category of calls were received for each city district.

I've been told that I need to use a pivot table to create this report, but would like to avoid doing so because this report will be used by general users, and I'm not certain they have the capability of using that interface, including myself.

I am attaching a mock report. If anyone knows of a forumla I can write to capture the needed data please let me know! Thanks.

A couple things you could possibly do.

Use a COUNTIF formula to count how many "1"s or "2"s, etc.

    --OR--

Use the Sub-Total function. Use Data|Subtotals to group your records by type. Should be fairly self explanatory as you work through this. HELP has some details, as well. Sorting first may be advantageous. Work with a COPY of your file in case it doesn't work out as desired!!!

    Good Luck
